Is men's skin different from women's?
Oil production, shaving and sweat. What makes men's skin worth thinking about separately, and what doesn't.
the difference is in use
What's different
According to a review of 57 studies, men produce more oil than women, and it barely drops with age, whereas in women it decreases. That's why a shiny forehead and roots that get greasy fast are more common in men.
Then there's shaving. Every shave takes a thin layer off the top of the skin. In laboratory models, even a single dry pass disrupts the barrier; moisturizing after shaving reduces this effect.
What's the same
The skin's protective barrier works the same way in women and men. Hot water, harsh soap, sun and wind wear both down. The basics are the same too: gentle cleansing, moisturizing and sun protection.
A short routine for men
- 1Morning: wash your face; after shaving, apply a cream that doesn't leave it greasy.
- 2Evening: shower gel, shampoo, face cream.
- 3Once or twice a week: clay mask, especially on the forehead and nose.
